Dogs are specialized in olfactory information, and it is important to imagine the "world of smells" in communicating with them. At STCJ (Scent Training Club Japan), you can deeply learn about the signs given by dogs through a hybrid program that combines both online and offline elements.
About STCJ
Scent training is a great method of training that utilizes a dog's natural instincts by bringing out their innate sense of smell through training. This training is necessary for developing dogs such as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, and bomb detection dogs, and is now being incorporated into training for household pets in North America.
Dogs have a sense of smell that is 100 to 1 million times better than humans, and 1/8 of their brain volume is dedicated to this sense. However, the average pet dog's sense of smell is often underutilized. By implementing scent training, a dog's potential can be unlocked, and a moderate level of tension can be provided. This type of training can establish the owner as the pack leader and can change a dog's behavior.
Scent training is an exercise that all dogs can enjoy, regardless of breed, age, or illness. It can also provide mental and physical stimulation that cannot be obtained from regular walks. Dogs can gain moderate levels of tension, activate their brain through the use of their sense of smell, and learn concentration and harmonious behavior. Performing scent training together with the owner can create deeper communication and strengthen the bond between the dog and owner.

2 Approaches of Scent Training
TRACKING
Tracking is a training method where a dog follows the scent on the ground to trace a route predetermined by the owner. The dog utilizes its sense of smell to follow footprints and scents along the way while the owner guides it with a lead. Essentially, the dog leads the way. This training can help improve the dog's concentration and the coordination between the dog and its owner.
TRAILING
Trailing is a training method where a dog follows the scent of a target object in the air and searches for it by following commands. The owner gives the dog instructions, and the dog moves towards the specified location or direction while sniffing the air to guide itself to the destination. Through this training, dogs can enhance their problem-solving abilities and self-confidence by actively searching and processing information on their own.
